East African residents are continuously being targeted by Nigerian fraudsters everyday. So many people learning and acquiring new email addresses everyday, do not care to protect their email login details while on the Internet.
Many times, users learning to use email and the Internet, would on many occasions, not hesitate to click on any flashing bar with words like “you are eligible to work in America, click for your visa”; “you are our 100,000th user, click to claim your prize”; “you have just won a lottery, click to claim $1,000,000″ These websites redirect their users to Nigerian fraud sites, where the victims are lured to disclose their email and bank details.
These fraud adverts have been very common with users having email accounts with either yahoo or hotmail. Its just unbelievable at the number of websites that pop just by googling Nigerian email scams!
A friend of mine recently had his hotmail address hacked. He lost all his contact details with everybody he has ever corresponded with together with all his emails. Surprising he only got to know it, from friends calling about his health. He got emotionally and mentally disturbed by the whole episode being that his email address was his safe deposit box for his local organization. Here is the same email sent out by the Nigerian scammers to the victim’s contacts.
I hope this message finds you in best of health. I had traveled to Nigeria for official purposes, Unfortunately for me all my money was stolen at the hotel where I lodged, I am so confused right now, I don’t know what to do or where to go,I didn’t bring my phone here, I have access to only emails, Please can you send me $3500 today so I can return home, As soon as I get home I would refund it immediately.Write me so I can let you know how to send it. Keep this to your self only please!!. Thanks
